Dog Licenses

Licensing

A.     All dogs in the Town of Pitcairn must be licensed with the Town Clerk by the age of four (4) months and are required to present a valid Certificate of Rabies at the time of licensing or renewal of an existing license.

B.     All dog licenses are for a period of one (1) year and will expire at the end of the month one (1) year from the date of issue.

C.     The Town of Pitcairn will not issue Purebred or Kennel licenses.  Each dog will be licensed individually.

Licensing

D.     The Town of Pitcairn will not require a license for any Service dogs with proper certification.

E.      No dog will be licensed without a valid rabies certificate.

F.      The Town of Pitcairn will be the only entity to issue dog licenses for the Town of Pitcairn dog owners. 

G.     No shelter will be allowed to issue licenses for the Town of Pitcairn.  The shelter MUST send the adoptive dog owner to the Town Clerk for the licensing of their adopted dog since that is where the dog will be harbored.

H.     No license shall be transferable.  Upon the transfer of ownership of any dog, the new owner shall within ten (10) days apply for a new license for the dog.  A license cannot be transferred to another dog.

 

Licensing Fees

            The Town of Pitcairn hereby establishes the fee for a dog license pursuant to Section 110 of Agriculture and Markets Law as follows:

1.      Fees for altered dogs will be $11.00.

2.      Fees for unaltered dogs will be $19.00.

3.      The fee for altered dogs includes a $1.00 surcharge.

4.      The fee for unaltered dogs includes a $3.00 surcharge.

5.      Dog licensed fees shall be set by the Town Board by resolution hereon after.

6.      No dog license will be refunded.

7.      If a tag is lost, the cost of a new tag will be $3.00.
